So there are a couple verses in the New Testament that have intrigued me over the years. As I’ve pointed out elsewhere, I’m not a scripture scholar, so I haven’t read everything there is on these verses. But they always make me wonder.
John 6: 21 – This is where Christ walks on the water. The verse reads:
“Then they willingly received [Jesus] into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.”
I’ve seen a lot of commentary and discussions about Christ walking on the water, but I’ve never heard anything discussed about the ship “immediately” arriving at Capernaum. I guess that’s because what can one say? It would be interesting to hear some speculations though.
The next curious event is similar in nature and takes place in the Gospel of John as well.
John 8:59 – On this occasion, Jesus is teaching in the treasury at the temple. He proclaims Himself to be YHWH and the Jews try to kill Him.
“Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.”
How did He hide Himself? He’s right there in their midst, but they can’t see Him. I find that so intriguing! I’m positive that there are those who would say that He pulled His head covering over His face so they couldn’t see Him. I don’t buy that because He had been there awhile teaching and they all knew what clothes He was wearing regardless of His face being covered. No, there is something else happening here.
While these events have no impact upon our salvation, or lack of it, they show to me that there is SO MUCH more to the events surrounding Christ than we know. These are like unspoken, or untaught, miracles because they are unexplainable…for now.
